About Dabbler

Sat, Feb 24, 2001; by David Bau.

Dabbler's weblog is about using and creating small bits of software. It was started by Dave Bau as an outlet for creative ideas and observations that are outside the scope of our real jobs as software professionals.

At Dabbler, we are interested in all sorts of software topics, including internet apps, open source projects, scripting languages, shareware, xml, security, multimedia, games, small devices, and the whole evolution of the technology landscape. The unifying theme is that we're about fun software stuff that doesn't take itself too seriously. But once in a while we might have something serious to say too. The current contributors are all former Microsoft engineers.

Dave Bau is currently the lead product designer for a new J2EE XML Web Services product at BEA Systems. He is part of a team was previously known as Crossgain corporation: they were acquired by BEA in July 2001. Dave lives, works, and depends on the Internet. He telecommutes from home in Philadelphia PA to work with an engineering team that is in Redmond WA. PPTP, ssh, and web-based apps are his lifeline. Dave also spends a lot of time living on airplanes, in hotels, and on the phone.

Dave previously worked for Microsoft for five years as both a programmer and a program manager, where he contributed to several little projects including MSN, Internet Explorer and ASP.NET.

Dave dabbles elsewhere. His previous published work includes a textbook on numerical analysis. He's also taken a keen interest in bioinformatics. If this whole Internet thing blows over, he may go look for a job in that biology business instead.

You can reach Dave via Hotmail.
