A recently posted video of a talk by Will Wright on his upcoming game Spore is worth a peek if you'd like to see a demo of a bizarre and different kind of game, or just to hear a genius talk about his work.

One of the rules of thumb in a game is "don't mix genres." So I've always wanted to break that rule. Very badly.

The terms of Drake's equation map very immediately to the different powers of scale... so at some point I rolled the two up, the SETI game and the Powers of 10 thing.

The game might arrive in 2006; we'll see. "Flies in the face of convention," says GameSpy, "but fortunately Spore is a game to play and not just a weird grad-student experiment."
